You may be familiar with terms like “body positive” or “diet culture,” but have you come across phrases like “healthy at every size,” “fat positive,” or “fat liberation”? For quite some time, popular culture and societal norms have been largely influenced by the ideals set by supermodels and professional athletes when it comes to body size and shape. However, a growing movement Nashville’s body positivity movement is challenging the misconception that thinness equates to healthiness. Advocates within this movement are actively dismantling years of bias and anti-fat prejudice that have deeply penetrated our healthcare system and mainstream culture.

Every woman is unique. No matter what skin color, body size, age, and lifestyle, you deserve to be dolled up and captured on camera. Boudoir should make you feel incredible- like the fierce woman you are. Who says boudoir is only for a “certain type” of woman? I believe that every single human being deserves to have boudoir photography done. No exceptions! What is body positivity? Body positivity is the acceptance and celebration of all bodies, no matter their size, shape, or ability. It’s about recognizing that every body is beautiful and worthy of love and respect. Why is body positivity important? Body positivity is important because it helps us to see ourselves and others in a more positive light.

When we focus on loving and accepting our bodies just as they are, we can start to let go of harmful thoughts and behaviors that can lead to eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and other mental health issues.

How can I be more body positive?

Here are some actionable steps you can take:

  • Regularly offer compliments to yourself and others, accentuating personality traits, achievements, or physical attributes that you hold in high regard.
  • Abstain from making derogatory remarks about your own body or the bodies of others. This encompasses all forms of body shaming, be it related to weight, size, or appearance.
  • Opt for clothing that nurtures your confidence. Whether it’s something that invokes sensuality or comfort, select garments that mirror the emotions you aspire to feel.
  • Cultivate connections with individuals who champion your journey towards body positivity. Surround yourself with those who uplift your self-esteem and offer unwavering support.
  • Foster an acceptance of your personal imperfections. Each of us possesses aspects we might not be entirely content with, but it’s paramount to spotlight the attributes we cherish. Strive to acknowledge and cherish your individualized beauty.

The body positivity movement is a resolute force, firmly rooted in our society. It’s high time we celebrated all bodies, regardless of their proportions, contours, or capabilities. If you aspire to amplify your body positivity, commence by acknowledging the myriad qualities that render your body both beautiful and distinct. Through gradual cultivation and persistence, you can ultimately embrace your body in its entirety. As this realization dawns upon you, you’ll unearth the remarkable potency and resilience that define your very being!
